There is no effective method for recycling, also recycling for this material, the conventional combustion treatment method not only easily damages the combustion equipment but also generates highly polluting gas.
The University of Bayreuth in Germany published a communique in 2015 saying that the school’s material processing scientists worked with the business community to develop a cost-effective and pollution-free method for recycling Teflon materials. This achievement will help solve the problem of Teflon waste disposal.
German researchers first decomposed this material into smaller molecules and used microwaves as a heating source to generate pyrolysis, resulting in a recovery of 93%. According to the researchers, another feature of the method is that it does not produce harmful by-products during the process and ensures safe recycling of Teflon.
According to the researchers, they will establish a small experimental plant in the next step to verify the industrial feasibility of this method.
